Baby High Chairs

A quality baby highchair is one of the most used pieces of baby gear you'll own, from the very first tastes of solid food at around six months right through to the toddler years. The right highchair makes mealtimes safer, more comfortable and more enjoyable for your baby, and much easier to manage for you.

What to Look for in a Baby Highchair

A five-point harness — the gold standard for keeping little ones safely in their seat. Pair it with a stable, wide base that won't tip when your baby leans or wriggles.

Height adjustment — a highchair that adjusts to your dining table or kitchen bench brings your baby into family mealtimes and makes feeding more comfortable for you.

A footrest — supported feet help babies sit upright and stable, which matters when they're learning to eat.

Easy to clean — mealtimes are messy. Look for wipe-clean surfaces, a removable tray and minimal crevices where food can hide.

Grows with your child — the best highchairs adapt from first foods through the toddler years, and some convert into a chair for older children.

Space and style — measure your space before you buy, and choose a design you'll be happy to look at every day for years.

Types of Baby Highchairs

Height-adjustable highchairs — move up and down to suit your table or bench. The Beaba Up & Down adjusts across six levels without tools.

Convertible highchairs — change shape as your child grows. The Childhome Evolu 2 works as a standard highchair, a low chair for a kids' table, and a bench-height chair with the optional long leg set.

Portable highchairs and booster seats — lightweight seats that attach to a standard chair, handy for travel, cafés and visiting family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can babies use a highchair?
Most highchairs are designed for babies from around six months, when they're showing signs of readiness for solids and can sit upright with minimal support. Some highchairs offer a separate newborn seat accessory for younger babies. Always check the manufacturer's age and weight guidance.

What is the best highchair in Australia?
It depends on your space and how long you want the chair to last. The Beaba Up & Down is a great choice if you want quick, tool-free height adjustment to suit your table or bench. The Childhome Evolu 2 suits families who want one chair that converts from highchair to low chair and lasts up to 6 years.

What should I look for in a safe highchair?
A five-point harness, a stable base, a footrest and secure fastenings. Check the product listing for the safety standard it's tested to, and always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

What's the difference between a highchair and a booster seat?
A highchair is a freestanding seat designed for babies and toddlers at mealtimes. A booster seat attaches to a standard chair and raises your child to table height, which is handy for travel and dining out.

When should my baby start solids?
Around six months, when your baby shows signs of readiness such as good head control and interest in food. Our Starting Solids Checklist covers everything you'll need, from highchairs and bibs to spoons and suction plates.
