Nappy Bags

A quality baby bag is one of the most essential pieces of baby gear you'll own from day one. It's your mobile change station, your feeding kit, your snack storage, and your daily handbag all in one. The right nappy bag makes leaving the house with a baby feel manageable, organised, and even stylish. The wrong one makes every outing feel like a scavenger hunt.

Whether you're searching for a backpack nappy bag that keeps your hands free for the pram and the toddler, a designer nappy bag that doesn't scream "baby gear," or a nappy bag with a change mat included, you'll find the right fit at Baby Central.

What to Look for in a Nappy Bag

• Storage and organisation — the best nappy bags have a place for everything. Look for dedicated pockets for nappies, wipes, bottles, dummies, snacks, keys, and your phone, so you can find what you need instantly with one hand while the other is occupied with your baby. Internal zip pockets, insulated bottle pockets, and external grab pockets are all features worth prioritising.
• Changing mat included — a baby bag with a change mat is a must-have for most Australian parents. Look for a generously sized, wipe-clean change mat that folds compactly into a dedicated pocket so you're always ready for an unexpected change.
• Comfortable to carry — you'll wear this bag every day, often for hours at a time. Whether you prefer a backpack nappy bag for hands-free carrying or a tote nappy bag for easy access, choose a style that works for your body and your daily routine. Padded straps, stroller clips, and ergonomic designs all make a meaningful difference on long days out.
• Pram and stroller compatibility — many nappy bags feature stroller straps or clips that attach securely to your pram handles, freeing up your shoulders and keeping essentials within easy reach.
• Wipe-clean materials — baby bags take a beating. Choose a nappy bag made from durable, wipe-clean fabric that handles spills, leaks, and the general chaos of life with a baby.
• Style you'll love — your nappy bag goes everywhere with you, so choose a style and colour you genuinely love wearing.
• Longevity — a quality nappy bag should last well beyond the nappy stage. Many parents keep using theirs as an everyday bag, gym bag, or travel bag long after the nappies are gone.

Types of Nappy Bags at Baby Central

• Backpack nappy bags — the most popular style for Australian parents. A backpack nappy bag distributes weight evenly across both shoulders, keeps your hands free for the pram and the kids, and typically offers the most storage. Choose from the Skip Hop Forma Next, Skip Hop Luna, Beaba Tokyo and Done by Deer Changing Backpack.
• Tote and shoulder nappy bags — a classic style that offers easy access to everything inside. The Done by Deer Quilted Changing Bag, Beaba Puffy Paris and Suavinex Wonderland Tote feel more like a quality lifestyle bag than a traditional nappy bag.
• Laptop and work-friendly backpacks — for parents juggling work and baby, the Fabelab On-The-Go Parent Eco Laptop and Baby Backpack carries both.
• Dad-friendly nappy bags — understated designs like the Banabae Rad Dad Cord Backpack suit any parent.
• Nappy bag sets and gift sets — complete sets with coordinated extras, like the BEETL Baby Ultimate Gift Set, make a great baby shower gift.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best nappy bag in Australia?

The best nappy bag depends on your carrying preference, lifestyle, and storage needs. Backpack nappy bags are the most popular choice for active Australian families, and the Skip Hop Forma Next and Beaba Tokyo are popular picks at Baby Central. If you prefer a tote, the Done by Deer Quilted Changing Bag and Suavinex Wonderland Tote are great options.

What should I look for in a baby bag?

The most important features in a nappy bag are thoughtful storage organisation, a wipe-clean change mat, comfortable carrying options, durable materials, and a style you genuinely love. A nappy bag with insulated bottle pockets and a stroller clip is particularly practical for parents on the go.

Do nappy bags come with a change mat?

Many nappy bags include a wipe-clean change mat, but not all do. Check the individual product listing to confirm what's included with your chosen nappy bag.

How long will I use a nappy bag?

Most families use their nappy bag actively from birth through to around two to three years. Many parents keep using it as an everyday bag, gym bag, or travel bag well beyond the nappy stage.

Are backpack nappy bags better than tote nappy bags?

Neither is objectively better — it depends on your preference and lifestyle. Backpack nappy bags are hands-free and distribute weight more evenly, ideal for active parents, those with prams, and families with multiple children. Tote nappy bags offer easier access and a more everyday look. Many parents own both.

What makes a good baby bag for travel?

For travel, look for a nappy bag that is lightweight, has a secure zip closure, and offers enough organisation to keep essentials accessible on the go. A backpack nappy bag keeps your hands free at airports and tourist attractions.

What's a good nappy bag for dads?

Look for a neutral, understated backpack with plenty of pockets. The Banabae Rad Dad Cord Backpack and Skip Hop Forma Next are both popular with dads.
