What does the Owlet Dream Sock actually monitor, and how is it different from a regular baby monitor?

The Dream Sock is a medically-certified baby monitor included in the ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods), which sets it apart from consumer-grade video-only monitors. It comfortably wraps around baby's foot and provides real-time monitoring of pulse rate, oxygen level, and sleep patterns using clinically-proven, medical-grade accuracy the same core technology used in hospital pulse oximetry, adapted for home use.

How will I be notified if something needs my attention?

Live readings are sent to the connected Owlet Dream App on your phone and to a nearby Base Station, both of which notify you if baby needs immediate attention. This dual-notification setup means you're covered whether your phone is in another room or you've stepped away from WiFi range the Base Station gives you a local, always-on alert alongside the app.

Is the Dream Sock suitable for my baby's age and size?

It's intended for use with healthy infants between 0–18 months and 2.5–13.6kg. Because the sensor's healthy-range thresholds are calibrated specifically for infant physiology within this window, it's not designed for use beyond 18 months or 13.6kg, where normal readings for an older child would fall outside the preset infant parameters.

Do I need the Owlet Cam as well, or does the Dream Sock work on its own?

The Dream Sock is a complete standalone monitor — you don't need a camera for it to track pulse rate, oxygen, and sleep patterns or to alert you via the app and Base Station. If you'd also like live video alongside the health readings, it's available bundled with the Owlet Cam 2 as the Dream Sock and Cam 2 Duo, but this is an optional addition rather than a requirement.

Is the Dream Sock comfortable for a baby to wear all night?

Yes — it's designed to wrap comfortably around baby's foot for continuous overnight wear, which is essential given its purpose is ongoing sleep monitoring rather than spot-checks. The medical-grade design prioritises both accuracy and comfort, since a sensor that's irritating or easily dislodged wouldn't reliably track through a full night's sleep.
